A note from a chemical engineer about Sri Lankan milk production

No automatic alt text available.

Now Sri Lanka is producing 33MT/day of Milk Powder by Both Pelwatte and Highland. But supply is only fullfilling 20.30% of the Sri Lankan demand.
However I think year 2012 is one of the turning points of this country economy. We have imported 83,817.7 MT of milkpowder in 2012 and the cost was 39023 million rupees. In 2013 we have imported 69,452.4 MT of Milk Powder and cost was 37572.1 million rupees. That means sudden reduction of 1450.9 million rupees per year.

The major reason is Pelwatte staring its first powder plant construction in 2011.
Now we are constructing 3rd Milk Powder Plant at Pelwatte and 4th one also be stared very soon.
This will help to increse the supply up to 26.46% of Sri Lankan demand and this also will be a huge turning point of the process industry in Sri Lanka and economy.
 — feeling hopeful.
